Manos del Uruguay: Fair Trade yarn from S.A.

Manos del Uruguay, the South American yarn company that produces some of our most popular yarns, has been admitted as a full member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). WFTO's 10 Principles of Fair Trade are consistent with Manos' own mission to eradicate poverty through sustainable economic development.

Manos del Uruguay Cooperatives were founded in 1968 by five women with the goal of developing and expanding economic opportunities for women. Today there are 17 individual cooperatives employing 350 workers who are paid a fair wage with health insurance, retirement benefits, vacations and maternity leave.

Take a fresh look at our Wool Clasica and Silk Blend next time you're in the shop. Not only are the yarns beautiful, but when you purchase them you are making a difference for South American women and their families.
