Sculpture comes to Fresh Purls

Lizzy Dubois, 22, is a Rhode Island resident, studying Sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design. As part of her Spatial Dynamics course instructed by Gareth Jones, she will be installing a reproduction of an original three dimensional piece by British sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy.

Andy Goldsworthy is an environmental sculptor who limits himself to only the raw materials of the land in which he installs his pieces. Cumbria, England, the land in which he created the sculpture, is heavily populated with grazing sheep, making raw wool an accessible material to work with. The piece chosen is a gray scale cone-shaped pile of wool (pictured above). In making a reproduction of his work, Lizzy will be working to maintain the integrity of his original piece by keeping her reproduction piece site specific as well. She will be using deconstructed yarn to elude the appearance of raw wool and installing the piece right in the shop!

The installation will be in place all day on Saturday, July 24. Stop in to see this interesting piece of art. We're open 10-4:30 on Saturday.
