Holiday Travel: Here We Go!

With the travel season upon us (nearly) we are often asked what knitting and crochet tools are allowed on airplanes. We looked it up on the TSA website and here is what we found:

Knitting needles are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage.

Items needed to pursue a Needlepoint project are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage with the exception of circular thread cutters or any cutter with a blade contained inside which cannot go through the checkpoint and must go in your checked baggage.

Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than four inches are permitted on airplanes.

Here are a couple of handy tips if you are nervous about traveling with knitting and crochet supplies:
1. Instead of scissors consider using nail clippers while you are traveling.
2. Put a pre-addressed padded envelope with the postage paid in your carry-on luggage. If the TSA agents have “concerns” about your circular needles or scissors, you can pop them into the envelope and mail them to yourself at home.
